A Bucket Full of Crap

Want to hear a funny story?
It starts out boring.. but then it gets good. I promise.

About 1 year ago (while Burley and I were living in the loft downtown), I started collecting and painting the frames below. I even went as far as to get some photos printed to fill them (not an easy task for this girl... simple... but not easy... TOO MANY CHOICES!)

Well.. That was a year ago.

And then it came time to move. And Burley pulled the bucket below, out of the storage area and put it in the thrift store pile. I looked at him like he was nucking futs and said "this is obviously coming with us." He seemed to understand the gravity of the situation, and chose not to fight that battle (God love 'em).

See... I had an idea of a gallery wall.. But I had yet to find the perfect moment of inspiration (aka the energy to measure, level, and put a bunch of tiny holes in our wall).

But still.. The bucket came with us.

And now we are in a new home.

And that moment of sheer mana from heaven came to me this week.

So it began like this. A bucket full of crap.

So then I laid it all out on my work bench (aka a decrepit patio that resides in my backyard... long story)

And then came the TLC.
I painted it with high gloss, black spray paint. I am in love with this paint. Seriously.
Ultra-cover 2x high gloss Rust-Oleum. I'll scream it from the rooftops.

And then it became this...

And then, it was so easy after that!
FALSE

So truth be told... I have horrible craftsmanship.
I prefer to get things done fast. So that I can sit down with a glass or three of wine and enjoy my newly finished project.
But I hate that about myself. I try and fight it by taking my time.
Forcing myself to measure things when I want to just throw them on the wall.
Forcing myself to let the frames dry before I put them on the wall, when I SERIOUSLY would put them up wet. SERIOUSLY? I know. It's horrible.
Forcing myself to use a LEVEL when I trust my own faulty eye. I hate levels with a passion.

But very long story even longer...

I took my time.
I measured.
I leveled.
I gave this project some serious TLC.

And when Burley came home, I have never been more proud to show him my work.

Especially because this project moos.

See? I Told you.

It's so cool. See?

Haha OK I am done with the "watch I can make my antlers do funny things that normally only live animals/people do" game.

What you have never played that game before?

So that's the story.

Have a great weekend, Thriftarians.
Get out there and do something to your fullest potential.
Let paint dry.
Measure things out.

Have a great weekend.

TTFN,

    1. Hahaha glad to know I'm not alone, Laura. I am now experiencing this same issue in the photo editing realm... HOW DO YOU DO IT?! I enjoy it but, what a HUGE learning curve :)

  4. I'm in love with this and it's funny but I am in the middle of a similar project. Upstairs I have a family gallery of pictures that has not been touched since, well, forever. I wanted to up-date the photos and rearrange cause my family has grown-up and out. But, alas, I too have been putting this project off. And, like magic you have inspired me - but right after I make yogurt. : )

  6. Ok I LOVE THIS! Especially the antlers. I am the exact same way with my 'craftmaship'...that's why I hardly ever do realy DIY projects. The thrifted mirror in my collage has some goopy moments around the edges. Only reason levels ever get used around here is thanks to my hubs who will walk by things and say "um, that's not centered." THANKS...

    1. Oh my gosh, Rachel - Burley is the EXACT SAME WAY. haha. so picky about the details. I guess that's why opposites attract. So we can get crap done around the house, correctly and quickly haha.
